ACEing Autism

ACEing Autism is a mission for children with autism to grow, develop, and benefit from social connections and fitness through affordable tennis programming, uniquely serving individual needs while filling a national void for this growing and worthy population.

Dallas Animal Services

Biweekly | Saturdays , 12pm-2pm

Dallas Animal Services is an animal shelter that we visit to help with animal enrichment. We help walk and socialize dogs in the hopes of helping them get adopted and find their forever home!

Dallas Hope Charities

Biweekly | Thursdays, 4pm-6pm

Mustang Heroes assists the Meals of Hope branch of DHC with miscellaneous projects such as serving individuals and households experiencing food insecurity in the Dallas area.

Dallas Life Homeless Shelter

Biweekly | Saturdays, 10:45am-12:30pm

Homelessness is a major issue in Dallas and the number of people affected by homelessness is constantly growing, especially recently. Dallas Life is a full service shelter that works to help people going through hard times. By working with the shelter, Mustang Heroes will be making a direct impact on the lives of people in the Dallas community. Due to health concerns, they are not allowing volunteers in the shelter, so this semester, the trip will be fully virtual and will work to raise money and write letters for the people in the shelter.

Dog and Kitty City

Biweekly | Saturdays, 2pm-4pm

Dog and Kitty City is the only non-kill shelter in Dallas County. This shelter is special because it gives dogs and cats a second chance without a time limit. Stray dogs and cats in the Dallas are a large issue but with the help of this shelter they can find their new and loving homes. Volunteers are able to socialize and train cats/dogs to make them more adoptable while ensuring dogs stay healthy through regular walks and exercise.

E-Quest

Biweekly | Saturdays, 10am-12pm

E-quest is a therapeutic riding center for children and military veterans with physical and mental disabilities or illnesses. Riding horses provides provides physical therapy as well as emotional therapy by forming a connection with their horse. During this trip, we help organize the barn, feed and water the horses, and work some of E-quest’s events for their clients.

Extended Service Committee

Monthly | Saturdays or Sundays

Extended Service Committee is a unique Mustang Heroes trip that visits a variety of community partners each semester, allowing our members to do different activities on each service trip and get to know various Dallas organizations. This semester we are focusing on helping feed the Dallas homeless population, planting trees, and empowering underprivileged children through creativity.

Habitat for Humanity

Monthly | Saturdays, 7:45am-12:00pm

Habitat for Humanity works to fulfill their vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through this project, we work to help make our surrounding Dallas community a better place by helping build homes for those in need.

Love of the Lake

Monthly | Saturdays, 8am-12pm 

For the Love of the Lake is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of White Rock Lake Park as an urban oasis and to maintain the environment for future generations.

North Texas Food Bank

Monthly | Saturdays, 9am-11:30am

North Texas Food Bank is a hunger relief organization that provides food and resources to those in need in the Dallas community. Volunteers will visit the food pantry and help package and distribute food to those in need. They will also help shoppers find items, carry out groceries, etc.

Parsons House

Biweekly | Saturdays, 10am-12pm

Parsons House is an assisted living home. Heroes create a welcoming space by participating in activities with the residents and helping plan events. We build close bonds with the elderly by talking with them and allowing them to share their stories

Promise of Peace

Biweekly | Sundays, 12pm-3pm

Promise of Peace is a nonprofit organization that uses community gardens to feed, educate and bring together the local Dallas community. Heroes volunteer in the gardens by planting and weeding, while interacting with other members outside of the SMU community.

Special Olympics

Weekly | Wednesdays and Saturdays, 6pm

Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Club members will help train the athletes at weekly practices and attended 3 to 4 meets a semester.

Texas PawPrints

Monthly | Sundays, 2pm-6:30pm

Help out with stray cats and kitten adoptions who are in need of a loving home.

The Bridge Dallas

Biweekly | Thursdays, 10am-12pm

We will be teaching art classes at The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center! Each session, we will lead the residents through a different art project that will take 1-2 hours to complete. If you have even a single creative bone in your body, this trip is for you!

The Stewpot

Monthly | Saturdays, 8:30am-1:30pm

Help feed the Dallas community at the local soup kitchen, The Stewpot. We will be volunteering in person to handout food as long as the COVID restrictions stay lifted. This is a great way to give back to your community and you get to see your impact first hand.

Thrift for Change

Biweekly | Saturdays, 10am-12pm

Thrift for Change is a trip at the benefit thrift store for Genesis Women’s Shelter, a famous shelter for survivors of domestic violence. Come help out and exercise your love of thrifting, shopping, and organizing, plus help a super important cause! 

VNA Meals on Wheels

Monthly | Sundays, 10am-12pm

Loneliness is a big problem among senior citizens and many are dissuaded from getting pets for company because of the costs and necessities for care. The VNA Pet Program helps reduce the costs of having pets and makes it more convenient by delivering pre made pet care packages to their homes. In this project, we will be preparing and creating holiday pet care packages that will be delivered to senior citizens.
